seasons changing

Couple of quick highlights:

I was in annapolis two weeks ago picking up the boy post summer sailing.  It was super hot and humid and the cicadas were out in full force.  Like 90 + degrees hot and 90% humid and hard to talk over the squeak of the cicadas.  All kinds of memories of midwestern summers and football came flooding back.  A day and plane flight later I am back in Aspen sending the kids to daycare--I mean school and its 42 degrees in the morning and a couple of leaves have started to turn.

More signs of fall:

First sighting of skis on a roof rack.

Maintenance crews on the hill working on trail (ski trail) maintenance.

Open parking spots

lots of meetings at school every week

many fewer folks on the trail (and after next week I will probably be able to hike naked on some trails and not upset too many people)

less trafic

emails from the head of hockey

emails from AVSC

kids freaking out school (both socially and there total lack of intelligence, and the stupidity that is school learning)

A couple of other fun facts

1.  there is a local liquor store that sells 20 different brands of wine in a box
2.  My son spent 73 of the last 79 nights sleeping elsewhere (should I have rented his room)
3.  My daughter knows more about the Kardashians than her own family

about that outfit (getting snarky)

ah it's true summertime is coming to an end and with that day care has restarted.....I mean school has resumed which means just maybe I will publish more my dear readers.

Last night my wife and I took our daughter to the movies (crazy rich aspen--no asians).  There were a bunch of 9th graders in line ahead of us rocking a lot of Gucci and Louie V.  One girl in particular turned my daughter and wife's head----I saw a kid in lulu leggings, a tee shirt, ugly jacket and tennis shoes.  They saw a girl in balenciaga shoes, louis vuitton supreme tee shirt, gucci printed hoodie and lulu leggings and started doing the math for me.

Grand total is about $4k (before tax) for leggings, tee shirt, tennis shoes (ugly) and jacket hoodie (really ugly).

I am trying my best not to be judgy---and I am struggling.  I will leave my snarky comments (mostly) unsaid.

I will note that on the front page of today's Aspen Times, SkiCo announced that they raised their minimum wage to $13.30.  I will do the math for you dear readers---after the approximately 10% bump in the base ski co wage, that employee would only have to work 352 hours (or 9 forty hour work weeks) to buy their 14 year old daughter a matching outfit.

Tension in this town and country.  You betcha.
